IOM, the Government of Canada, and the Jordanian Armed Forces Celebrate the Completion of Region Command Female Accommodation Buildings

Amman -  The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Government of Canada and Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF), marked on Thursday, December 21st the official handover of the Central Region Command Female Accommodation Building in Mowaqar – Jordan, in a significant step towards advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and promoting gender mainstreaming.

The ceremony underscored the commitment to fostering gender equality and supporting women in security entities. The project, which was initiated with a groundbreaking ceremony in April 2022, emphasizes the continued dedication to women's empowerment in the realms of national and international security.

Commemorating successful completion of female accommodation facilities

Under the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) Female Accommodations Buildings project, IOM worked closely with the Government of Jordan to construct two modern Female Accommodation Buildings equipped with facilities tailored to the specific requirements of women in the armed forces. These facilities include a nursery and a gym, addressing identified gaps in infrastructure and fostering a conducive environment for women serving in the JAF.

The successful completion of the project was acknowledged as a testament to the strong partnership between IOM, the Government of Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The collaboration, ongoing since 2018, has yielded outstanding results in the sectors of women, peace, and security, as well as border management.

“Jordan has been a regional leader in recognising the important role women play in support of national defence.  This building is a critical part of addressing specific needs of women in the JAF to ensure they are effective soldiers.  We know the needs of women and men are different but both women and men make unique contributions to Jordan.Sais H.E Tarik Khan, The Ambassador of Canada to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
