National Migration Working Group in Jordan holds National Consultations on the progress of implementation of the Global Compact for Migration

IMRF 2022 Jordan consultation

Amman, Jordan – On 31 March 2022, the National Migration Working Group in Jordan organized National Consultations on the progress of implementation of the Global Compact for Migration, bringing together representatives of various ministries and national entities, UN agencies, civil society and the migrant workers center.

The consultations touched on several topics relevant to the Jordanian context, including access to legal identity and justice, border management, counter-trafficking, inclusion of migrants in social protection schemes, and other barriers faced by migrants in accessing their human rights. The discussion also captured the good practices in Jordan, especially the inclusion of migrants regardless of their status in the COVID-19 national vaccination plan.

The wide participation with representatives from both government and non-government actors provided a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, ensuring all voices were heard and taken into account. The consultations played a key role in informing the preparations of the Jordanian government for the upcoming International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) taking place in New York on 17 - 20 May 2022; and will also inform the Jordanian Voluntary National Report on GCM progress.
