IOM together with the EU and Government authorities inaugurated seven company commands built under a EU funded project at the North-Eastern borders
Hadalat, 19 December 2018. Today morning, a total of seven company commands constructed at the North-Eastern border between Jordan and Syria by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funds from the European Union (EU), were inaugurated by H.E. the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Lieutenant General Mahmoud A. Freihat, together with H.E. the Ambassador of the European Union Mr. Andrea Fontana and by IOM Chief of Mission, Mr. Enrico Ponziani. The project, funded by the EU Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) was launched in May 2017 within the framework of the Humanitarian Border Management program implemented by the International Organization for Migration to support the Government of Jordan and the Jordanian Armed Forces in facilitating the humanitarian response at the borders. The company commands will be used as accommodation and offices, hereby improving substantially the living conditions of the officers and staff deployed at the borders. In addition, special accommodation facilities for female staff have been installed at the service area operated by the United Nations close to Rukban.
Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, the European Union and the International Organization for Migration have partnered with the Government of Jordan to strengthen the link between security and humanitarian operations in this remote area. With the support delivered through this ongoing humanitarian border management program, the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) are in a better position to ensure the security of the humanitarian operations at the borders.
